AboutI have the fabulous fortune to live in the beautiful state of Maine where I continue to be inspired by the forest and lake that surrounds my small cabin. I live with my partner of 45 years and my small dog Aurora.
When I am not painting or having adventures with my grandsons, I operate a small, local commission free gallery where I am able to feature local artists and community events. My own studio is in a tree house, fifteen feet above ground, where I work daily. Summers and fall are busy in this State, they are short and intense. They are the time to be outside, collecting visual information for the long winter ahead. I can often be found in my kayak on the lake with watercolors and paper. It is in the cold, long, quiet, contemplative winters, that I am able to develop and deepen the work of all these summer collections. Artist Statement.
Like most people I am inspired by my surroundings, both physical and emotional. I paint the different light that I see at different seasons from my tree house studio window overlooking the forest, I respond to news, Torah, emotional ups and downs, the quiet and the shouting with and through color and shape. I dig, I scrape the wax on my panel. I add and subtract until I achieve what feels like a particular energy, a balance, a state of presence, a finished painting. I use encaustic paint when I feel called to or cold wax depending on what is emerging for me. I hope my viewer will feel a familiar light, a familiar scene, a familiar state of being in the world we live inhabit together.
